DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT PLAN, COLUMBIA, TENNESSEE
Our firm was retained as part of a team to create a master plan for development in Columbia, Tennessee, which is viewed as a critical step in revitalizing a part of the historic town center of this city. The City, County and community leaders of Columbia were interested in positioning the city as a destination and growth area in the region. This project is part of a larger plan for local and regional improvement surrounding the Nashville Metropolitan area. Governmental buildings including a City Center, a county owned Center, a School Board building and a Public Health building, as well as miscellaneous retail spaces totaling approximately 160,000 square feet of programmable space. Civic outdoor spaces, plus 400 structured parking spaces, in addition to on-street parking, define both sides of this two city block site and set the tone at a prominent corner one block off the historic courthouse square. Landscape and streetscape improvements as well as contextual designs recalling materials, scale, rhythm, and proportion from adjacent historic structures will make this proposed scheme a success, blending the past into the future for a successful unique sense of place.
