MONTGOMERY BELL STATE PARK INN AND CONFERENCE CENTER, BURNS, TENNESSEE
This project included 110 guest rooms, 5 suites, convention space, a 300-seat restaurant, and indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The building is tucked into the hillside to create an intimate entry court that conceals the true size of the structure. The lake side of the building provides every guest room with a view of the lake. Local crab orchard stone and vernacular elements such as the galvanized metal roof recall the early architecture of the region. The legacy of Montgomery Bell, a 19th century industrialist who operated an ironworks on the site, is evident in the project's use and detailing of exposed steel and in the image of the blast furnace, which serves as the hotel's entry.
