VANDERBILT UNIVERSITY TENNIS CENTER, NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE This 14,000 sq. ft. addition to and remodeling of the 1977 indoor tennis facility provided functional amenities such as spectator seating, varsity/visiting team and public locker areas, coaches' offices, conference room, administrative areas, as well as repairs and renovations to the existing structure. The design goal was to achieve a varsity image for the tennis program, while maintaining a sensitive relationship to its neighboring student recreation center and other varsity sports facilities. Special attention was given to site conditions, which preserved two large trees and provided a more articulated east façade responding to both the pedestrian scale and the vehicular prominence of the site.
