POPE JOHN PAUL
II HIGH SCHOOL, HENDERSONVILLE, TENNESSEE
This 155,000 sq. ft. high school serves a student body of
600. The core areas are designed to accommodate a future enrollment
of 1000 students with a simple pre-planned expansion to the
classroom wing. Conceptually and functionally, the school
revolves around the ellipse-shaped "piazza", or courtyard,
encircled by a loggia reminiscent of St. Peter's Square in
Rome. While serving as the primary circulation space of the
school, the loggia also provides a welcoming statement to
the community with a high degree of visibility from the nearby
Vietnam Veterans Parkway as well as an embracing feeling to
the Chapel, which is in the center and focal point of the
entire composition.
